Lessons on Life from our Generations Past
Moon-Related Worship

On the grounds of the Takemizuwake Shine is the Korasha Sanctuary which dates back to the Muromachi Period (around the 15th century).
At the time, a poet named Sogi Iio held a poetry writing party where he wrote the line “Obasute-yama ni Aki no Tsuki” (Obasute Mountain and the Autumn Moon).
From this we know moon-inspired poetry parties were held at this shrine.
Later, in 1564, samurai warlord Kenshin Uesugi stopped at the shrine and while observing the moon shining above Mt. Kamuriki, he prayed for victory in the famed Kawanakajima Battle.
