Throughout the Edo Period, Shinto Shrines and Buddhist Temples often coexisted, as with the case of the Jinguji Temple on the grounds of the Takemizuwake Shrine, both being run by the Matsuda family.
With the Meiji Restoration many temples were torn down including Jinguji Temple but its remains and those of several branch temples can still be seen.
Chorakuji is one of Jinguji’s branch temples.
