Obasute Terraced Rice Fields

Consisting of the Upper, Middle and Lower Ponds, together the 3 make up Chikuma City’s largest water reservoir.
Construction of the Oike reservoir allowed for the Obasute rice terraces to be expanded. Water from Oike is carried via the Sarashina River to the top of the terraces and is brought to the individual paddies through a series of channels.
On the side of Mt. Mitsumine are the “Seven Springs of Yawata” located at an elevation of 500-800 m.
The Oike reservoir feeds one, the Benzaiten Spring.
